If I could change one thing...

If I could change one thing in the world, I would change the rate of families living in poverty. According to UNICEF, more than 20,000 children die each day to poverty. No one deserves to leave this world with nothing. On a daily basis I see at least one man or woman on Guam living in tents or walking around with a shopping cart filled with everything they own. The question that constantly clouds my mind is, "How can I help others if I do not have enough money to support myself?" I use to believe the only way to help someone was by giving them money, but I was wrong.

Soon enough, I found many ways to help others without having to spend a dime. UNICEF has the Tap Project which donates water to those who are in need of it. For every ten minutes you spend off of your device, UNICEF donates a cup of water to those less fortunate. Charity events and fundraisers happen often, so volunteers are always needed. If you do not have transportation to attend events, freerice.com is an educational way of earning grains of rice for poorer countries. I have learned that you do not need money to help someone in need, as there are many alternatives. Hearing about the unfortunate families around the world and what they go through made me appreciate what and who I have.
